Igreja do Carmo (18th C)

The magnificent tile panel on the side facade of the church, was designed by Silvestro Silvestri. Igreja do Carmo (on the right) and Igreja das Carmelitas (on the left).
You may not notice, but there is a separate building between the two churches, about four feet wide. That’s right, the whole 48″. The two churches were part of two monasteries, The nuns on the right, and the monks on the left. And that 4 feet wide building in between is what kept them apart. No monkey business here (…or should it be no monks business?).

Both of these churches have interiors worthy of note, and I will document their interiors in the next time. Another item for my never ending list.
